How To Get The Most Mileage Out Of Running A Contest

By Denise Turney

Before you set up your contest, ask yourself a question. Think about the
make-up and demographics of your target audience then ask yourself, "Why am I
running this contest?" Your answer will help you focus and insure that you
run a contest that compliments the products you sell at your web site. At
times this may call for a bit of control and reservation on your part. Let
me give you an example. A cash giveaway will attract loads of visitors from
every market. After all, not many people will turn down the chance at
gaining free money. But every market is not your market. Every consumer is
not your customer.

If you are running a contest to pull in traffic to boost your site's appeal
to advertisers then a cash giveaway will prove to be an excellent vehicle at
pulling in visitors. If, however, you are running a contest to gain repeat
visitors to your site or to increase your sales, you will gain the most
benefit out of running a contest if your contest aligns with the products you
sell. Think about this. Your company sells musical instruments. To boost
your sells you could run a contest where the grand prize winner got the once
in a lifetime chance to accompany their favorite musician (who uses the same
products your company sells) to an awards ceremony.

I have seen online businesses run contests that have no connection with the
products that they sell. It is not uncommon to hear these business owners
say, at the end of the contest, that they gained lots of traffic while the
contest ran but their sells remained the same. It doesn't take much effort
to hear the frustration in these business owners' voices. When you visit
their site and read up on the contest, it becomes easy to decipher the
problem. The contest has no connection with the products the company sells.

After you decide on a contest that compliments the products you sell and also
wets the appetite of your target audience, get busy submitting your contest
to leading freebie, contest, and sweepstake directories. These directories
will bring you good traffic. One such place to start is The Freebie
Directory (http://freebiedirectory.com). From the directory you can submit
your contest to 100 or more freebie, contest and sweepstakes sites. Keep in
mind that many of these sites will request a reciprocal link from you.
Create a link page before you place your submissions so you can complete the
process of submitting your site to 100+ contest directories in less than a
few hours. Once you're in, you'll notice immediate results!

How To Start a Running Program

By Jason Barger

Running or jogging is one of the best ways there is to lose weight fast. It burns tons of calories and gets your body burning fat. Running strengthens the heart, lungs and can be done just about anywhere at anytime.

The problem is most people don’t know where to begin and usually do it wrong.
In this article I am going to show you an effective way to start a running or jogging program without killing yourself.

The first mistake people make when they begin a running or jogging program is that they run too fast. This will leave you out of breath and spent in about 5 or 10 minutes. When this happens people generally think to themselves that anyone who runs is crazy or likes punishing themselves.

This simply is not true. Once I found out how to run properly, I was able to run a few miles with ease and comfort.

I had been running for about a month and was up to two miles. But at the end of these two miles, I felt as if I was going to keel over and die. My legs hurt. My lungs hurt. Everything felt wrong.

I thought I would just keep running these two miles until it became easier, but it never did. It got harder, if anything.

Then I heard about a guy named Stu Mittleman. This guy had run from San Diego to New York in 56 days. Basically Stu ran two marathons a day for 56 days. So I bought his book called Slow Burn and it completely changed any negative feelings I had about running.

The first thing I did was bought a heart rate monitor. This cost around 100 dollars and was the best purchase I have ever made. It allowed me to monitor my heart rate and stay at a comfortable running level, even while running up hills.

What I did, was started running at 50 to 70% of my maximum heart rate. At first, I felt like I was going too slow and not getting a good workout. But within a week, I was able to run 4 miles without any problems. The best thing was that after the four miles, I felt incredible. Instead of feeling like I was going to die before, I actually felt better.

To find your targeted heart rate zone, do the following:

Subtract your age from 220. Then multiply this by .50 and .70 and that will give you your targeted zone.

Example: Age 28

220-28 = 192

192 x .50 = 96

192 x .70 = 134

By this example, if you are 28, then you should be running in the heart rate zone of 96 to 134. To make it easier to remember, just round it up to 100-135.

If you are running in this zone, you will probably be very comfortable and be able to run a good distance.

You see, the problem people usually face is that they start off running too fast. You just need to slow down. It isn’t necessarily how hard you run, but that you are moving as much as possible, as often as possible.

Once you begin to add mileage, you will get in better shape and be running faster anyways. You just won’t be working any harder. Your body will adapt, and you will begin to move more efficiently, without more effort.

This program worked perfect for me, and has turned me into a runner for life. I hope it does the same for you.

Wasatch Running Center Opens in Sandy

By Anonymous

March 18 2004--“Because so many people run in Utah, especially in the south end of the valley, I felt like it was time to offer them the best shoes and apparel that meet their needs,” said Wasatch Running Center owner Glen Gerner. “I want more people to find the right shoe which in turn creates a better running experience. The more you enjoy it, the more you’ll run and stay fit and healthy.” The Wasatch Running Center allows runners to test their shoes on their indoor track lane or covered sidewalk prior to purchase.

The Wasatch Running Center staff is trained and experienced in running and racing and therefore equipped to handle training-related questions and problems. Their goal is to ensure their customers find the right shoe for his or her biomechanics. A runner who runs with the proper running shoe lowers their chance of injury, making his or her running experience more enjoyable. A running shoe has four jobs: to absorb shock, to stabilize the foot, to provide traction, and to protect the foot from the running surface. All performance manufacturers make high quality shoes. If the shoe has the proper support and stability elements for the specific runner - it fits the shape and size of the foot – then it is the best shoe for that runner. Improperly fitted running shoes will typically not last as long as properly fitted performance training shoes. The lifespan of a pair of running shoes is typically 350-500 miles, provided that their design matches the biomechanics of the runner who uses them. The staff at the Wasatch Running Center wants to make sure its customers get the most mileage and value out of their running shoes.

The Wasatch Running Center is the only specialty running store in the Sandy area. Glen Gerner hopes that the Wasatch Running Center makes running better and more enjoyable for the residents of the Wasatch front. His motto is "No matter how bad your day's gone, if you got in a run, something good happened.”
